I’m ready for the real thing but nobody’s selling

I’m ready for the real thing but nobody’s selling

I don’t want to ruin anybody’s day, but Christmas appears to have arrived 4 months and 17 days too early in Les Gets. My ears were assaulted by “Let it Snow” whilst minding my own business, trying to enjoy an Orangina this morning. My annual squawking doesn’t generally start to heat up until late October and really, this is too much.

This is being broadcast from my sofa on the balcony, where I’m safe from the whims of others’ dubious musical notions. It’s been a busy few days, what with birthdays and work and culture. We did Normal Family on Holiday yesterday and went to visit L’Abbaye d’Aulpes in St Jean, where the main takeaway was that there was a CAT, hunting a LIZARD. So that’s the cultural bit over, then.

I’ll be honest, I’m struggling with not being able to run. It’s been the key for managing my fluctuating mental health over the last 12 years and despite my attempts to reframe the current downward slide with gym trips and as much walking as I’m able for, it’s not hitting the spot as hard as I’d like it to. Add a layer of guilt about how it could be possible to be here in such an amazing place and not be deliriously happy, and you have the makings of a perfect storm. As always, the storm will pass but right now, it’s a bit thundery.

Running is also my go to method of avoiding having have to periodically tell my family and other animals “I don’t want to see you or speak to you, please go away”, so being unable to take myself off for hours on my own means this introvert has had to become more inventive about ways of grabbing pockets of time to recharge.

Time is galloping away, here. In three weeks’ time we’ll be on the road home back to the UK for 6 months. Joe and Ashley leave on Tuesday, I’ll disappear into a black hole of work for a couple of days before friends arrive for the weekend…and there goes another week. I could live here, without hesitation. It’s peaceful and mellow all year round, offers me constant forms of entertainment, as well as being very easy on the eye. Just like the very best kind of life partner, really.
