Listen to the girl as she takes on half the world
Well Bonjour. I’m not sure I can remember quite how to do this, to be honest. However, as you all got a break from the contents of my head back in March, I’ve had plenty of time for new content to float to the top, like the cream it is.
So much so that it’s the last day of our 5th summer out here and I’m only just getting the quill out of the box again. Whether this is a sign of a good time or pure laziness is anybody’s guess. But not yours. You had a guess once and look how THAT turned out.
It’s been a beautiful summer. We have clearly become part of the community here after 4 years as we were robustly kissed on arrival this time. Until now it’s been a handshake and a welcome back, but even though I am particular about who I receive robust kisses from, I’ll take these.
We’ve had visits from family, friends and loved ones.
Alps have been scaled, miles have been run, cheese has been eaten. I’ll never tire of watching the reaction of our visitors when they reach the top of Ranfoilly to be faced with La Dame Blanche for the first time.
I’ve worked a lot too – but even though I hope that certain plans mean I’ll be able to do less of this when I’m back here next year, somehow, working out here never feels as demanding as it does when I’m at home. We start the two day drive home tomorrow, having paid our customary last afternoon visit to Madame, who furnished us with copious amounts of wine and the traditional homemade biscuits for the journey.
This time tomorrow we’ll be in Reims, it’ll be like we were never here and I’ll be dreaming of February, when we return to a winter wonderland.
We all know that this is my happy place. And it’s the place where things happen too – dreams are dreamed, plans are made, things start, things end….the good, the unexpected, the heartbreaking, the exciting. This year has managed to deliver all of those in truckloads – and it’s only August. I’m heading home into what promises to be one of the most exciting phases of my tiny company to date. I can’t even tell you about it yet which, for this boundaryless oversharer, is probably the biggest challenge of the whole endeavour.
